Cultural

DEG recognises that cultural buildings contribute towards the creation and enhancement of community among individuals. It is therefore important the buildings must embody the spirit and beliefs of the community as it will provide facilities for social and recreational activities. In order to create successful cultural building, we understand that the fabric of the building needs to be attractive and flexible enough to encourage a variety of uses.

Tampines East Community Center

TECC is the first CC in Singapore to house auditorium facilities. Designed to be the hub of cultural activities in the eastern part of Singapore, it features a fully air-conditioned, state of the art theatre which can accommodate up to 285 people for the staging of various cultural performances. The auditorium includes the performing stage, dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms and a dance studio.

Macma Mosque

The brief of this architecture competition called for the design of a masjid initiated by the Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (MACMA). Our design focused on the intention to promote cultural and religious understanding by using traditional Chinese art and architecture as well as Islamic values and art as the theme for the proposed masjid.

Ansar Mosque

The design approach is broken into parts with the theme of ‘preserving heritage’ and taking from the notion of an old marriage custom of ‘something new, something old, something borrowed, something blue’. The marriage of architectural and façade design is in the form of a new contemporary squarish ‘veil’ juxtaposed alongside the existing old 3-storey prayer hall building that is topped off by a round dome and completed with a new entrance marker block along Bedok North Avenue 1 that wraps the ‘old and new’.
